Newcastle United have parted ways with manager Steve Bruce by mutual consent just 13 days after the Saudi Arabia-backed £305m takeover of the club.
Bruce's departure follows his 1,000th match as a manager last Sunday when the Magpies fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham - in what was his only game as Newcastle boss under the new regime.
The 60-year-old will be replaced on an interim basis by his former assistant Graeme Jones.
Still without a win to their name, the Tyneside club are languishing second from bottom in the Premier League with three draws from their opening eight games.
End of the road
Bowing out of his role, Bruce spoke of "highs and lows" and his wish that Newcastle's new owners can take the club "forward to where we all want it to be."
In his two full seasons at the helm, Bruce achieved creditable top flight finishes of 13th and 12th
"I am grateful to everyone connected with Newcastle United for the opportunity to manage this unique football club," said Bruce.
"I would like to thank my coaching team, the players and the support staff in particular for all their hard work.
"There have been highs and lows, but they have given everything even in difficult moments and should be proud of their efforts.
"This is a club with incredible support and I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be. I wish everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond."
Newcastle face Crystal Palace this coming Saturday in the Premier League.
