Manchester City's stranglehold on the Carabao Cup was ended as West Ham United knocked the Citizens out on penalties. The holders were held to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes at the London Stadium - their first elimination in the competition since 2016.
Guardiola's team made nine changes and had plenty of shots but weren't able to score. Phil Foden's penalty was the only miss in an otherwise flawless shoot out that ended 5-3 to David Moyes' side.
Meanwhile, Preston North End battled hard against a completely changed Liverpool side. The Lilywhites looked the better team until the 63rd minute when Takumi Minamino made the breakthrough.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of Preston before Divock Origi eventually finished them off.
The most entertaining game of the night was at the King Power, where Leicester beat Bright & Hove Albion 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 2-2 in regular time.
Harvey Barnes opened the scoring for Leicester after just six minutes. Brighton thought they would be going into half-time level when they scored in the third minute of first-half stoppage time through Adam Webster. But the home side immediately hit back through Ademola Lookman.
Enock Mwepu headed Marc Cucurella's cross to equalise for the visitors. During the shootout, Neal Maupay hit the bar and goalkeeper Danny Ward saved Enock Mwepu to put Leicester into the next round.
In the other two games, Burnley were knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur by second-half substitute Lucas Moura while Brentford beat Stoke City 2-1. Sergi Canos and Ivan Toney got the goals for the visitors, while former Brentford man Romaine Sawyers got Stoke's only goal.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup will take place on Saturday at 10:30 am, with Arsenal, Brentford, Chelsea, Leicester City, Liverpool, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United the remaining sides.
