Exeter reached the second round of the FA Cup after beating Bradford 3-0 in a dramatic replay last night - but the legitimacy of their victory is being questioned due to their use of an additional substitute.
With the scoreline goalless after normal time, subs Matt Jay (2) and Nigel Atangana scored to secure a convincing win over the Bantams in the sides' first round replay at St James Park.
Today, however, an FA investigation is underway regarding the Grecians making an illegal substitution in last night’s replay.
This season’s FA Cup rules state that clubs may use five substitutes over the course of the game, including extra time, with a sixth substitute only permitted as a concussion replacement.
Exeter made a sixth substitution, one more than allowed, when they brought on Josh Key for Sam Nombe at the start of extra-time.
A club statement from Exeter said: "A review is due to take place following last night’s FA Cup game between Exeter City and Bradford City at St James Park.
"The matter will be considered by an FA committee and is in reference to the number of substitutions allowed during the match.
"Both clubs will be asked for their comments, along with the referee and fourth official. The matter will be referred to an FA committee who will decide on what course of action to take."
An outcome is expected sometime this week, but as it stands Exeter are due to travel to Cambridge United for the second round of the FA Cup.
