Paul Heckingbottom has been appointed as the new permanent manager of Sheffield United after signing a four-year contract with the club.
Slavisa Jokanovic mutually agreed to depart the club only this morning and The Blades have moved swiftly to announce their replacement.
The change in management comes as a bit of a surprise given Sheffield United won 1-0 away to Reading as recently as Tuesday night.
However, Jokanovic had failed to live up to United’s pre-season expectations of a strong and sustained challenge for automatic promotion.
Their inconsistency and underperformances can be under-pinned by the lack of individual performances. An example of that would be Rhian Brewster’s failure to ignite. Brewster was exceptional the last time he had a spell in the Championship with Steve Cooper’s Swansea City in 2020.
Sheffield United will still be anticipating a push towards the top six this season and Heckingbottom’s first match will be live on Sky at the weekend at home to Bristol City.
Heckingbottom was the club’s caretaker manager at the end of last season after Chris Wilder left the club ahead of their imminent relegation from the Premier League.
