Last night, Liverpool put in a formal request to the EFL for their Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg encounter against Arsenal, at the Emirates, to be postponed due to further COVID-19 positive cases.
Pep Lijnders took charge of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the weekend, in the absence of Jurgen Klopp who had tested positive, has now himself tested positive this week.
Lijnders’ positive case is one of a suspected ‘multiple’ and The Reds have closed their training centre for a minimum of 48 hours due to the increase.
Alisson, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino are all confirmed positive cases, just a week or so after the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Curtis Jones returned from their own isolation.
The EFL are yet to confirm their decision on whether or not the match will take place on Thursday evening. Liverpool’s next game after their scheduled trip to Arsenal is a home match against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round on Sunday afternoon.
