Burnley's home encounter against Leicester this Saturday has been called off at the Clarets' request due to Covid-19 cases and injuries.

The Premier League accepted that Sean Dyche's side had insufficient players to fulfil the fixture, which means Burnley had fewer than 13 outfield players and one goalkeeper available.

It becomes the 20th Premier League game postponed in the current campaign due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Burnley were without boss Dyche and a list of first-team players due to Covid-19 when they lost in the Third Round of the FA Cup to Huddersfield Town last Saturday.

"The board assesses applications to postpone matches on a case-by-case basis, based on existing rules and adapted Covid-19 postponement guidance, implemented in light of the new Omicron variant," read a Premier League statement.

"The board will assess a number of factors, including the ability of a club to field a team; the status, severity and potential impact of the Covid-19 outbreak at the club; and the ability of the players to safely prepare for and play the match.
