Everton have confirmed that Duncan Ferguson will take over as caretaker manager following the club’s dismissal of Rafael Benitez.
John Ebbrell, Leighton Baines, and goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly will support Ferguson in the ‘upcoming games’ with no timeframe yet as to when a new manager will be appointed. The Toffees have been linked with Roberto Martínez, Frank Lampard, and Wayne Rooney in recent days.
This will be the second time that Duncan Ferguson will take charge at Goodison Park. The Everton legend filled in following Marco Silva’s departure in December 2019. In that spell, Everton went undefeated in Ferguson's four games against difficult opposition. Everton defeated Chelsea and drew Manchester United, Leicester City, and Arsenal before the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti.
The next game for Everton is full of intrigue as Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa – including Lucas Digne – make the trip north to Liverpool.
