Kepa was brought on as a sub for the penalty shoot-out, missed the decisive kick and Liverpool won the Carabao Cup for a ninth time, after beating Chelsea 11-10 on penalties in a goalless draw at Wembley.

Action: Despite the 0-0 after the 120 minutes, the game was very entertaining with various chances created by both teams.

With just six minutes played, Christian Pulisic saw his close-range effort brilliantly kept out by Liverpool’s cup keeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

It was then Edouard Mendy's time to shine, making an incredible double save to deny Naby Keita and Sadio Mane.

The Blues missed a glorious opportunity just before half-time, when Mount bounced a volley wide of the post with the goal at his mercy just before half time.

The English midfielder missed another big chance to take the lead a few minutes after half-time, as he found space unmarked in the box, but could only hit the post with Kelleher beaten.

And then, it started a run of disallowed goals - Joel Matip's header was ruled out after VAR ruled Virgil van Dijk was offside in the build up.

Thomas Tuchel's men had three disallowed goals, Kai Havertz (2) and substitute Romelu Lukaku thought they scored the winner for their team, but in the three moments, their moment of joy was ruined by the sight of the offside flag.

With so many chances missed and disallowed goals, somehow the game ended in a stalemate after 120 minutes.

In the last minute of extra-time, Thomas Tuchel brought on goalkeeper Kepa for the shootout, as he did in August's Super Cup win against Villarreal, but this time didn't work so well...

After 20 successful penalties, Caoimhin Kelleher was the Liverpool hero, first stepping up to make it 11-10 and then seeing Kepa smash his penalty kick high over the bar.

Big Picture: The victory sees Jurgen Klopp win his first domestic cup as Reds manager and also means the club remain on for an unprecedented haul of four trophies this season, with Klopp's side still in the FA Cup and Champions League as well as fighting Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Both teams will now get their focus into the FA Cup with Liverpool hosting Norwich on Wednesday before returning to Premier League, while Chelsea will travel to Kenilworth Road Stadium and face Luton Town on Wednesday in the FA Cup.

xG: Chelsea (1.72) 0-0 (1.80) Liverpool (After 90 minutes)

Stat of the Day: Liverpool's 11-10 penalty shootout win over Chelsea is the highest scoring penalty shootout between two English top-flight teams.
