Several reports in the English press have this morning linked Leeds United and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips with a move to Manchester City this summer.
It is believed that if Leeds were to be relegated this weekend that Phillips would push for a move to stay in England’s top-flight and any transfer fee would be north of £40 million.
Phillips came through the Leeds United academy and is a Leeds boyhood supporter. The 26 year-old made his first-team debut in 2014 and has gone on to play 233 times for the club, across all competitions.
He began his career as bit-part player across the midfield before being moulded into the deep-lying role under the influential coaching of Marcelo Bielsa.
Under Bielsa, he was key in helping Leeds gain promotion and then played a starting role for England as The Three Lions reached the final of the UEFA European Championships for the first time ever in the summer of 2021.
Manchester City are expected to be interested in signing at least one central midfielder ahead of the 2022/23 season with veteran Fernandinho due to retire and rumours surrounding Ilkay Gundogan and a potential departure.
The Cityzens have already announced a deal has been agreed for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Braut Haaland and they have also been linked with a left-back with Marc Cucurella of Brighton and Renan Lodi of Atletico Madrid rumoured to be of interest.
