United duo set to depart

Self-proclaimed football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Manchester United will be willing and looking to offload defensive duo Eric Bailly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.

Erik ten Hag is set to arrive from Dutch champions Ajax and it is believed the former Utrecht boss does not see either defender in his plans for The Red Devils next season.

Eric Bailly arrived at Old Trafford in 2016, signing for around £30 million from Villarreal. The Ivory Coast centre-back, now 28, had only been a regular at top-flight level in Spain for one season before his surprise move to England.

Bailly’s six-season spell at United has been blighted by injuries and he has made, quite staggeringly, just 70 Premier League appearances. Despite that, he has won one EFL Cup, one Community Shield and one UEFA Europa League. 

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to Manchester United came in the summer of 2019. The right-back signed from Crystal Palace for close to £50 million, after a stellar campaign for The Eagles.

Wan-Bissaka’s defensive capabilities were always praised but there were concerns that he was reactive, rather than proactive, when it came to spotting danger. Questions about his on-the-ball attributes have also been raised.

Bailly has been linked with several clubs on the continent whilst a return to Selhurst Park may be on the cards for Wan-Bissaka.
