Kylian Mbappé has at long last made his decision on where he’ll be playing next season – deciding to stay in Paris instead of making the expected move to Real Madrid.
The French forward allegedly messaged Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez to inform him of his decision – a blow to the Spanish champions who have been publicly pursuing the forward for a long time. The 23-year old has signed a new deal to keep him at Paris Saint-Germain until at least 2025.
In a statement, the player said: "I would like to announce that I have chosen to extend my contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and of course I am delighted. I am convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level. I am also delighted to continue to play in France, the country where I was born, where I have grown up and where I have made my name.”
The announcement hasn’t gone down well in Spain, La Liga pointing out that for Mbappé to sign a new bumper deal with PSG and will look to file an official complaint with UEFA.
The Spanish league produced a statement of its own, highlighting that "this type of agreement threatens the economic sustainability of European football, putting hundreds of thousands of jobs and sporting integrity at risk in the medium term, not only from European competitions but also from our domestic leagues.”
So, while the saga of where Mbappé will be playing next season is at an end long last, the saga might not be over yet.
