Liverpool came from a goal down to beat Wolverhampton 3-1 on Sunday at Anfield, but it was not enough to earn them the Premier League title, as they finished second, one point behind champions Manchester City.
The worst possible start for Liverpool for the final day of the season happened when Wolves took the lead in the third minute Ibrahima Konate misjudged a long ball over the top, allowing Raul Jimenez to tee up Pedro Neto for a tap-in.
Liverpool levelled through Sadio Mane in the 24th minute when a lovely Thiago Alcantara backheel set the Senegalese free and he made no mistake past Jose Sa.
The belief in Anfield was reignited after knowing the result in Manchester, as Jurgen Klopp's side were level with City on 90 points, with Pep Guardiola's team top because of their superior goal difference.
Wolves resisted Liverpool's intentions throughout the second-half and as City completed their insane comeback, the hosts finally took the lead through substitute Mo Salah six minutes from time, scoring his 23rd league goal of the campaign and secured a share of his third Premier League Golden Boot, alongside Tottenham's Son Heung-min.
Andy Robertson then confirmed the win, sliding in Roberto Firmino's cutback, but there was no late equaliser at Etihad Stadium as Man City took their sixth Premier League title.
Liverpool finished the season as runners-up on 92 points, while Wolves finished 10th on 51 points.
The season is not over for the Reds as they will take on Real Madrid on Saturday in the Champions League final in Paris.
