Kasper Schmeichel is on the verge of leaving English football after a long career that saw him win the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester City.
The goalkeeper leaves behind an impressive legacy where he has managed to easily shake off the pressure of his father’s reputation and carve out his own, successful career.
Schmeichel began his football career at Portuguese side Estoril as a teenager while his father was playing for Sporting. He then followed his father to Manchester City in 2002 where he went on to make 10 appearances.
In 2009, Sven-Göran Eriksson was instrumental in bringing the goalkeeper to Notts County where he became a regular fixture for the League Two side.
Leeds United brought him up to the Championship a year later before he moved onto Leicester City where he spent 11 seasons.
Since Leicester’s promotion in 2014, Schmeichel has kept 78 clean sheets, only the trio of Ederson (91), David de Gea (94), and Hugo Lloris (97) have kept the opposition at bay more.
Going further back, no one has kept as many clean sheets in the top four tiers of English football as the Danish international.
Since the 2009/10 season, Schmeichel’s first full one as a starter, the shot-stopper has kept a remarkable 157 clean sheets – 27 more than David de Gea.
It's an impressive record for a player who is set to depart Leicester City, where he is the club's third-highest appearance maker, for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice soon after a successful career in English football.
