The injury to Liverpool midfielder Thiago is set to keep the Spanish international out of action for approximately six weeks.
Thiago was replaced after 51 minutes in the Reds’ 2-2 draw away to Fulham with Harvey Elliott coming on in his place. Now the midfielder is expected to undergo a second scan on his hamstring this week, although apparently the club aren’t expecting the injury to be any more serious than the six weeks previously estimated.
However, the injury is still a blow to Jürgen Klopp’s team, especially considering how busy the fixture list is at the start of this season due to the winter World Cup.
It’s likely that Thiago may not return to action until mid-September. Assuming the player returns for the important September 18th clash with Chelsea, Thiago will have missed 8 games, including two Champions League ties and games against Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Everton.
Of course, Liverpool possess a strong squad with depth but in this situation the absences of Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also felt.
