De Bruyne in final three for Uefa Player of the Year award

Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne has been shortlisted for the men's Uefa Player of the Year award, along with Real Madrid duo Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois. 

Belgian midfielder De Bruyne won the 2021-22 Premier League Player of the Season award, as the Citizens edged out Liverpool in a thrilling title race. 

However, City and De Bruyne lost out to Real Madrid in the last four of the Champions League losing a thrilling semi-final tie 6-5 on aggregate. 

De Bruyne's fellow Belgian Courtois put in a man-of-the-match performance, as Madrid went on to beat Liverpool in the Champions League final, while striker Benzema was named the 2021-22 Uefa Champions League Player of the Season after netting 15 goals to top score in the edition. 

The winner of the award will be announced on 25 August.

The final three have been whittled down from an original list of 15 players which included Paris St-Germain's Kylian Mbappe, Bayern Munich's Sadio Mane and four of his former Liverpool team-mates: Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho.

The shortlist for the men's Manager of the Year award has also been revealed by Uefa with Real's Carlo Ancelotti, City's Pep Guardiola and Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp set to battle it out. 

The women's Player of the Year and Manager of the Year nominees are due to be named at a later date.

The winners will be revealed at the Champions League group-stage draw in Istanbul.
