Conti Cup: Three teams book their semi-final spots

Manchester City, West Ham United, and Chelsea all secured their semi-final spots for the Continental Cup after quarter-final victories.

Bristol City have a great chance of earning promotion to the WSL this season, however, they were given a taste of just how difficult the league is when Manchester City came to visit Ashton Gate.

Just eight minutes in Alex Greenwood set up Hayley Raso. The Australian made it 2-0 just a few minutes later with a fine finish. Then Lauren Hemp set up Bunny Shaw for goal number three before scoring the fourth herself with a superb solo effort. Mary Flower made it 5-0 just before half-time with the game in truth, finished much earlier.

Bristol managed to avoid conceding quite as many in the second half with Hemp rounding out the scoring to an even six. The England winger ended the game with two goals and two assists.

There were 86 minutes gone in the game by the time the Hammers took the lead when Viviane Asseyi’s cross found the head of Dagný Brynjarsdóttir. 

Erin Cuthbert and Sam Kerr were both celebrating seven minutes before the end of the half as Chelsea opened the scoring on the road to Tottenham. It was Cuthbert’s shot that took a late deflection off of Kerr, so the Australian will be awarded the goal.

There was no debate for the second one when Lauren James’ pullback found Fran Kirby to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute. 

Sam Kerr secured the victory late on with Chelsea’s third. Although there was still time for Drew Spence to pull a goal back for Tottenham against her former club – it wasn't a bad one either.

Either Arsenal or Aston Villa will join the trio of City, West Ham, and Chelsea when the two sides meet in the remaining quarter-final tomorrow.
