The summer and winter spending in England has been astronomical, especially in comparison to the rest of Europe. That isn’t just a sign of the Premier League’s spending power but also the rest of the EFL, with the Championship specifically outspending Germany, Italy and Spain in the January transfer window.

This is a look at the total spent in all three divisions in the EFL in both the summer and winter transfer windows in the 2022/23 campaign…

      *Reported & approximated spend.

The Championship’s biggest spenders this season were, by some distance, runaway league leaders, Burnley. The Clarets spent over £40 million across both windows but did still manage to make a £40 million profit thanks to their summer exodus and sales, including the likes of Nick Pope, Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet.

Ipswich Town have spent the most in League One with three purchases involving seven figure fees, including two in January. Gillingham’s winter spending, including the likes of Tom Nichols and Timothee Dieng, contributed to League Two’s spend.
