The FA have overturned Ella Toone’s red card from Sunday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur and charged Eveliina Summanen with ‘successful deception’.
The incident happened late into United’s 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the two players tangled up after a tackle. Toone then appeared to push out at Summanen, with the Finnish international holding her face.
Referee Amy Fearn produced a straight red card to Toone which would have put her out for Manchester United’s next three games.
However, that ban has been overturned on appeal with the video showing that Toone didn’t in fact touch Summanen’s face. The Spurs midfielder has subsequently been charged with deception and could face a two-game ban instead.
United topped the league after their victory over Tottenham and host Leicester City in their next home league game in early March. Spurs meanwhile will face a tough trip to take on Manchester City when the WSL returns from the international break.
