Napoli took a significant step towards their first Champions League quarter-final after a 2-0 victory over 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank Arena on Tuesday.
Eintracht started the game well, with a chance falling to Randal Kolo Muani in the fifth minute, but Napoli soon began to dominate.
Hirving Lozano struck the right post and in the rebound Frankfurt defender Aurelio Buta fouled Victor Osimhen inside the box. From the spot Khvicha Kvaratskhelia missed the chance to put the Partenopei in front as Kevin Trapp saved the penalty.
In the 40th minute, the visitors went ahead when Osimhen met a lovely curling cross from Lozano to tap home his 20th goal of the season from just a few yards out.
Seconds later, Napoli scored an identical goal moments later, but this time Osimhen started the run just too early and was offside on the Lozano assist.
A straight red card to Randal Kolo Muani for a reckless foul saw them go down to ten men in the 58th minute and killed any German hopes of a positive result in the first leg.
Things then went from bad to worse for the hosts shortly after when Kvaratskhelia's backheel found Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who curled low into the bottom-left corner to secure a two-goal cushion.
Both sides will now meet again at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium for the second leg on March 15
Next up, Eintracht Frankfurt will take on RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, while Napoli will turn their focus to Empoli in Serie A.
