James Ward-Prowse scored a controversial late penalty as Southampton battled back from 3-1 down to earn a point at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
Each team’s physios were the busiest early in the game at St Mary's Stadium with both sides having two injured players needing to be replaced within the first 37 minutes.
Richarlison was the first victim with the Brazilian replaced by Dejan Kulusevski early on with Southampton having to replace Armel Bella-Kotchap with Mohammed Salisu shortly afterwards.
Later on in the half, Ainsley Maitland-Niles was needed in the place of Jan Bednarek and Ivan Perisic replaced Ben Davies.
Fortunately, for the rest of the game there was more goals than injuries. Pedro Porro opened the scoring for the visitors just before half time. The Spaniard found space on the right and blasted a powerful effort past Gavin Bazunu to seal his first goal for Spurs.
Southampton levelled just after the break when Theo Walcott teed up Che Adams.
Harry Kane put Antoni Conte’s team ahead in the 65th minute after a fine cross from Kulusevski allowed the striker to head home.
Ivan Perisic looked like he may have potentially finished the game off in the 74th minute but just a few minutes after the Croatian’s goal, the Saints pulled one back through Walcott.
Then in stoppage time came a controversial moment. Simon Hooper pointed to the spot as Pape Sarr looked to clear a ball only for Maitland-Niles to get there first and go down under what looked like fairly minimal contact.
James Ward-Prowse had the responsibility of dispatching the penalty and he duly delivered by sending a powerful and unstoppable effort into the top right that Fraser Foster could do nothing about.
Conte and Spurs will be furious about the awarding of the penalty but also kicking themselves for not managing to see the game out while 3-1 up.
