Argentina edge past Colombia in extra time to win Copa America

An extra-time goal by Lautaro Martínez secured Argentina a 1-0 victory over Colombia and a record-breaking 16th Copa America title at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

The match, delayed by over 75 minutes due to crowd trouble at the stadium, saw few clear chances, with Colombia's Jhon Cordoba striking the woodwork in the first half.

In the second half, La Albiceleste improved and thought they had taken the lead with 15 minutes remaining, but Nicolas Tagliafico's effort was ruled out for offside, sending the game into extra time.

Substitute Lautaro Martínez became the hero when he connected with a precise through ball from Giovani Lo Celso and lifting his shot over the advancing Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas in the 112th minute.

Captain Lionel Messi, who was left in tears after being forced off midway through the second half due to injury, lifted Argentina's 16th Copa America and their third successive major tournament title.

This victory, which moved Argentina ahead of Uruguay after the two nations had been tied on 15 Copa titles, also marked the final Argentina match for Ángel Di María, who had announced last year that he would retire from international football after the Copa. Defender Nicolás Otamendi is also set to end his international career.

Wow, what an intense game! I can't believe we pulled off that win in extra time. Faith tone really showed his skills with that goal. We may have had a slow start, but we definitely stepped it up in the second half. So proud to be a fan of this team, especially with our record-breaking 16th Copa America title!
