Great goals galore in the second tier...

Championship round-up: Trivelas and 40 yarders

There were two particularly outstanding goals in another action-packed day in the Championship.

The early kick-off between West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City at the Hawthorns provided plenty of late drama.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened the scoring for the league leaders in the 72nd minute with Josh Maja then getting an 89th-minute equaliser for the Baggies. However, there was still time for one more twist with Dewsbury-Hall turning scorer to provider as he set up Harry Winks to win the game in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Ipswich Town remain hot on the heels of the Foxes in a game that saw Wes Burn channel his inner Ricardo Quaresma against Coventry City.

George Hirst had opened the scoring for the Tractor Boys before, in the 41st minute, Burns cut inside and pinged a curling effort with the outside of his right boot that goalkeeper Bradley Collins couldn’t stop. The Sky Blues did manage to prevent Ipswich from having a clean sheet though when Brandon Williams put the ball on his own net late into stoppage time.

But despite Burns’ brilliant effort, the goal of the day – and one of the goals of the season – has to go to an unlikely source in Watford’s Wesley Hoedt.

The game was 1-1 between hosts Hull City and the Hornets until the Dutch defender picked up the ball 40 yards out and saw Ryan Allsop off his line. Hoedt’s long-range effort was inch-perfect with Allsop unable to reach the ball as he frantically backtracked.

The two former Premier League teams just outside the top two both continued their fine form.

Leeds United are third in the table and defeated Middlesbrough 3-2 at Elland Road. Leeds were helped when Anfernee Dijksteel was sent off in the 63rd minute after picking up a second yellow card. In truth, the home side should have had a healthier lead in the end but will still be happy with all three points against a tough side.

Just behind Leeds are Southampton who had their game at home to Cardiff City wrapped up in just 15 minutes thanks to Adam Armstrong’s brace.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday got just their second win of the season with a 3-1 victory at home to Blackburn Rovers – though the Owls remain bottom of the league. Meanwhile, Plymouth Argyle snatched all three points at home to Stoke City thanks to Adam Randell’s late, late goal.

        An absolutely stunning effort!

Wow, what an exciting day of football! Dewsbury-Hall and Burns showed why they are so highly rated, scoring two incredible goals. It was a real rollercoaster of emotions and I'm sure the fans of both sides enjoyed it immensely.
