The 2024 Copa America begins on Friday with defending champions Argentina taking on Canada, who are now under the management of former Leeds United boss Jesse March.

Playmaker Stats are running through each group with a detailed preview of each group that can be found on the site with the expanded CONMEBOL competition running concurrently with UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany as international football takes centre stage this summer.

Given we are already previewing the sides, now it is a time for a round-up of the basic stats and some of the more niche facts to keep in your mind over the course of the next month.

A basic note to touch on is that ‘expanded’ point. There are 16 teams playing at this edition of the Copa America with all ten South American sides being joined by six teams from CONCACAF (North America) to make up four groups of four with the tournament being held in the United States.

Lets kick off this whirlwind rundown of the tournament by focusing in on the United States and the venues being used, pertinent on a global stage too with the 2026 FIFA World Cup being held across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
