Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly top of the list of potential candidates to replace Erik ten Hag should Man Utd look to part ways with the Dutchman.

According to Football Insider, Italian coach De Zerbi is a "very strong contender" to become Man United's next manager, with ten Hag's future in doubt following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's recent investment in the Red Devils. In fact, the same report states that ten Hag is "not seen as a long-term United manager".

The Football Insider article references a "well-placed source" who says that 44-year-old De Zerbi is regarded as the outstanding candidate to take the reins at Old Trafford should ten Hag leave.

The speculation is given added credibility by the fact that United's incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth supervised the recruitment process which identified De Zerbi as Graham Potter's replacement at Brighton back in 2022.

Ashworth is currently on gardening leave from his role at Newcastle having reportedly agreed to join United.

De Zerbi led Brighton to sixth in the Premier League last season and the south coast club face Roma in the Europa League knockout stages next week.

The Seagulls are currently seventh in the English top flight, five points behind United in sixth.

Wow, this is exciting news for United fans! De Zerbi seems like a strong candidate to take over as manager and his previous work at Brighton shows he has potential. With ten Hag's future uncertain, it's great to see United already considering potential replacements.

As a football fan, I have to say I am intrigued by the potential of De Zerbi as Man Utd's next manager. With ten Hag's future in doubt, he seems like a strong contender to take the reins at Old Trafford. And with Ashworth's involvement in his recruitment to Brighton, he definitely has the credentials to succeed. Exciting times ahead for United!
