According to self-proclaimed football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United are closing in on their first signing of the summer transfer window in Fabricio Bruno.
The 28-year-old Flamengo centre-back is reportedly set to join the Irons for a fee that is believed to be in the region of £10.2 million with an extra £1.275 million in fixed add-ons.
The Brazilian defender will become the first signing of the post-David Moyes era and Julen Lopetegui’s first addition but is more a sign of the influence now held by the Hammers’ Director of Football, Tim Steidten.
Fabricio Bruno began his youth career at Cruzeiro before signing professionally for the Belo Horizonte-based club in 2016 at the age of 20. He played for them for three years, with a loan spell at Chapecoense in between, before then arriving for RB Bragantino in 2020.
He signed for Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo in 2022 and has been crucial in helping them win the Copa Libertadores, Copa do Brasil and Campeonato Carioca since his arrival.
Internationally, Fabricio Bruno has been capped twice by the Brazilian national team with both of those appearances coming in the March international break against England at Wembley Stadium and Spain at the Bernabeu.
The signing will raise doubts over the futures of the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Nayef Ageurd, who have both been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League.
