Bruno Guimaraes netted twice as Newcastle United secured a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The opening goal came in the 10th minute through a cleverly executed short corner routine, with Kieran Trippier delivering a powerful ball to the back post. Guimaraes, perfectly timed in his arrival, poked home the volley to put Newcastle ahead.

In the 26th minute, the atmosphere changed in the stadium when Morgan Gibbs-White played a well-weighted ball, allowing Anthony Elanga to outpace Newcastle's defenders and slot it past Martin Dubravka, levelling the game.

Just before half-time, the visitors restored their lead as Fabian Schar met Sven Botman's header on the half-volley, sending it back across goal into the bottom left corner.

However, the hosts responded in stoppage time of the first half, with Callum Hudson-Odoi's strike deflecting off Lewis Miley to wrong-foot Dubravka.

Midway the second half, Guimaraes with a brilliant finish found the bottom corner from the edge of the box putting his side in front of the game once again.

Despite late pressure, Eddie Howe's side held on for all three points.

The result took Newcastle to seventh in the table, trailing sixth-placed Manchester United by two points, while Forest remains 16th, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Disappointment tone: Another disappointing result for us. Can't believe we let our lead slip away. Need to step up our game in the second half.

Wow, what a game for Newcastle! Guimaraes showing his class with two goals, including a perfectly timed finish. But let's not forget about Schar's impressive strike to regain the lead. Nottingham Forest put up a good fight, but ultimately it was Newcastle's day.
