Home form giving Plymouth chance of 'Great Escape'

It may yet prove too little too late, but Plymouth Argyle have fought gallantly against the drop in the Championship - the Pilgrims' home form since the turn of the year up there with the best in the division.

Although their form away from Home Park is an entirely different matter, the Devon club have chalked up three mightily impressive home wins on the trot over Norwich, Sheffield United and Coventry in recent weeks to give themselves a shot at what would constitute a 'Great Escape' should they avoid demotion back into the third tier.

Their Easter Monday win over the Sky Blues showcased the Pilgrims' cutting edge in attack with two goals from Mustapha Bundu and a strike from Ryan Hardie earning them a valuable three points against Frank Lampard's play-off hopefuls.

Plymouth have now won 18 points on home turf in 2025 (only seven teams have picked up more) and even more impressively they have outscored every team in the division this year, apart from Leeds (28), in terms of goals scored at home, with 20.

An away trip to Preston lies ahead for Plymouth now, and the Green Army know they need to pick up at least a point at Deepdale before they host already-promoted Leeds in their final Championship game of the season.

Beating the potential winners of the division in their final game would certainly be a stylish way for Plymouth to complete a 'Great Escape'!
