Striker sidelined by injury on eve of tournament

Injured Dykes to travel with Tartan Army

Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes has stated that he is "devastated" to miss Euro 2024 due to an ankle ligament injury sustained just nine days ago in training.

The 28-year-old QPR striker told BBC Radio Scotland that he had been ruled out of the summer tournament in Germany by the medical team at his club and spoke of how he initially thought the injury was a lot worse.

"It's been really tough for me and I tried my best to make it, but I went to see the QPR medical team and they ruled me out and that was that," he said.

"No-one was near me and it was off a cross and I sort of lunged and my studs got caught in the grass.

"My body kept going forward and my leg just stopped, so at first we were very worried about my knee because it was a very awkward fall.

"A few of us, myself included, we heard a cracking sound, which is not pleasant."

Despite being sidelined for the Euros, Dykes will continue his rehab while joining the Tartan Army at their base in Germany.

"Because it was so close, I want to go out with the boys and I've got that option to be with them and be around," he said while praising his international colleagues for their support in his own hour of need.

"I want to be out there and not dwelling on the injury. Maybe I can give a bit around the backroom."

As a Scottish football fan, I am gutted to hear about Lyndon Dykes' injury and his subsequent exclusion from Euro 2024. He has been an integral part of our team and his absence will be felt. Wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping for a strong performance from our other players in the tournament.

So we got the scan and thankfully it wasn't as bad as we thought.

Wow! Absolutely gutted for Lyndon Dykes. He has been in fantastic form for Scotland and it's a huge blow to lose him for Euro 2024. Wishing him a speedy recovery!

But thankfully, it wasn't as bad as we feared.

As a fan of one of the teams in Scotland, I am devastated for Lyndon Dykes. He has been such an important player for us and it's a huge loss for the team. We were all hoping he could make it to Euro 2024 and it's heartbreaking to hear that he won't be able to due to his injury. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can come back stronger for the team.
