''It was a tough decision...''

Lallana to leave Brighton

2024/05/13 17:18

Adam Lallana has announced that he will leave Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of the season.

The former England international joined the Seagulls from Liverpool in 2020 initially on a three-year deal before signing an extension until the end of the 2023/24 campaign last year.

"It was a tough decision, but it just feels like the right time, not just for myself but for the club as well," the 36-year-old said.

"I’ve been in talks with Roberto [De Zerbi] for the past couple of months and he expressed his wish for me to stay and keep playing.

"However, after taking a little time to think about where the football club is at, and having been away from my family for the last four years, I just feel it’s the right time.

"I’ve been speaking with my family throughout the year and the biggest influence on my decision was my kids, who need me around a bit more at the age they’re at. I feel it’s time in my life and in my career to put them first.

"Last week I told Roberto, the club and my teammates, who are extremely important to me. Now I just want to enjoy my last week, get a couple of really positive results, and finish the season on a high."

Since joining Brighton, Lallana has featured 103 times for the club, scoring four and assisting four.

This season, the Southampton academy product has played 24 times for his club in the Premier League for his club with half of those appearances coming from the bench.

As an en-GB football fan, I have to say I'm grateful for everything Adam Lallana has given to Brighton e Hove Albion. He's been a great addition to the team and his impact will surely be missed. It's understandable that he wants to prioritize his family now, but it's sad to see him go. Thank you for the memories, Adam!
