Exeter City have moved to the top of League One following a 1-0 win at home to Cheltenham Town.
Caleb Watts scored the only goal of the game in the 68th minute which continues the Grecians’ fine start to the 2023/24 campaign.
The result moves them top after previous leaders Stevenage were held to a 1-1 draw by Charlton Athletic. Jamie Reid had given the Boro the lead but they were denied late on by a Corey Blackett-Taylor stoppage-time penalty.
Bolton Wanderers began the day in second place but now move down to seventh after losing 2-1 away to Reading. Dion Charles had given the Trotters the lead until a late Royals fight-back with Charlie Savage and Caylan Wickers earning three points for a team that may only have to worry about losing them off the pitch.
Port Vale are now second in League One with Ben Garrity striking late against Northampton Town. The Vale are followed in third by Oxford United who won 3-0 away to struggling Fleetwood Town.
Barnsley are up to fifth in the table after enjoying a 2-0 win at home of Burton Albion. Devante Cole continued his great goalscoring run with the striker now on five goals in four games.
There was late drama at Pride Park between Derby County and Portsmouth. James Collins looked to have given the Rams a late win with his 86th-minute penalty but Colby Bishop popped up late for Pompey with a stoppage-time goal to ensure the points were shared.
Elsewhere in League One today, there were wins for Wigan Athletic, Wycombe Wanderers and Bristol Rovers.
