Foxes back on top of the Championship for now...

Leicester return to winning ways against Norwich

      2024/04/01 14:44

Leicester City returned to winning ways after coming from behind to defeat Norwich City and go top of the Championship.

The Foxes had lost four of their last six league games going into this fixture with fears that Enzo Maresca's team could be set to jeopardise a promotion bid that earlier this year looked certain.

Those fears were no doubt compounded early on when Norwich took the lead with a clever corner routine. Marcelino Núñez took a quick low corner that Gabriel Sara was able to convert at the near post in the 20th minute.

Leicester were the better team though and got a deserved equaliser in the 33rd minute when Wilfred Ndidi's deep cross was headed back toward goal by Stephy Mavididi allowing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to apply the finishing touch.

The home side continued to dominate proceedings in the second half when the Canaries were caught out attempting to play out from the back.

Dewsbury-Hall ended up with the ball in the area and found Mavididi on the left who made light work of Jack Stacey before rolling the ball in the corner past Angus Gunn.

There were still some nervy times for Leicester fans but they were eventually allayed in stoppage time by substitute Jamie Vardy.

Vardy had been guilty of missing several chances against Bristol City on Friday but there was no chance he could miss when the ball fell nicely to him just a yard outside goal to make it 3-1.

That victory puts Leicester City back on top of the Championship but that may be a short stint depending on how Ipswich Town and Leeds United do in their games this evening.

The early goal was a setback, but we never gave up and got the result we deserved. Great team effort and let's keep pushing for that promotion!
