Bournemouth defender out of contract this summer

Lloyd Kelly targeted by Newcastle

According to several reports across England on Wednesday, Newcastle United have made Lloyd Kelly their priority defensive target for this summer’s transfer window.

It has been reported that the Magpies will try and lure the 25-year-old Bristolian to St James’ Park this summer after his contract with AFC Bournemouth ends at the end of this season.

The left-sided central defender, who can also play at left-back, would likely become the first signing of the post-Dan Ashworth era at Newcastle with Ashworth on gardening leave and set to take up a position at Manchester United and Crystal Palace’s Director of Football, Dougie Freedman, likely to replace him on Tyneside.

Kelly began his career in his home city with Bristol City before transferring to Bournemouth for a fee believed to be in the region of £13 million in the summer of 2019.

Internationally, he has represented England at U20 and U21 level and he has been heavily linked with seven-time European champions AC Milan.

Newcastle have had several defensive injury issues throughout this season with Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman and Fabian Schar all suffering from long-term issues at some stage.

There is an expectation that Newcastle will have to make a big money sale at some stage during this transfer window in order to comply with Profit & Sustainability Rules in the Premier League with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak most likely to be sold.

As a football fan, I am excited to see Newcastle United targeting Lloyd Kelly as their priority defensive signing this summer. He has proven himself to be a versatile and talented player, and I believe he would be a great addition to the team. Can't wait to see him in the black and white stripes at St James' Park!

Newcastle making Kelly their main defensive target for summer Disappointed. Would've preferred a more proven player to solidify our defense.

As a passionate football fan, I'm excited to see Newcastle United making moves in the transfer window. Lloyd Kelly would be a great addition to our defensive line, especially with his versatility to play at left-back as well. Let's hope he becomes our first signing under the new era at St James' Park.
