Man City ease into Champions League quarters after Copenhagen win

Manchester City sealed their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Copenhagen, sealing a 6-2 aggregate advantage.

In the fifth minute, Manuel Akanji connected with Julian Alvarez's corner, executing an impressive right-footed volley to give City the early lead.

Alvarez nearly assisted again four minutes later, with Rodri's header hitting the crossbar, but the Argentine capitalised on the rebound, cutting inside and shooting to slip the ball past former Liverpool goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

Former Southampton Mohamed Elyounoussi pulled one back for Copenhagen with a delightful finish in the 30th minute.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Erling Haaland restored the two-goal lead, finding space to receive Rodri's diagonal ball and wrongfoot Grabara.

While Copenhagen made efforts in the second half, there was a sense of acceptance that the tie was over.

Substitutions disrupted the flow, and the game saw few genuine chances as the Danes pressured without hitting the target.

In stoppage time, Rico Lewis struck the bar via a deflection, coming close to adding a fourth for Pep Guardiola's side.

The attention now shifts to the huge clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Great game from both teams, but as a Manchester City fan, I have to say that I am thrilled to see us progress to the next round of the Champions League! What a performance by our boys, especially Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez. They really set the tone for the game with that early goal. And how about that finish by Mohamed Elyounoussi for Copenhagen Pure class. But in the end, it was Erling Haaland who sealed the deal for us.

As a Manchester City fan, I am beyond thrilled to see my team secure a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with such a dominant performance over Copenhagen. The early goal from Akanji set the tone for the rest of the match and it was great to see Alvarez and Haaland get on the scoresheet as well. It's a testament to the strength and depth of our team that we were able to secure such a comfortable aggregate advantage. Bring on the next round!
