According to several sources on Monday evening, including the likes of John Percy and Fabrizio Romano, Martin Zubimendi has decided to reject a move to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has opted to remain at hometown club Real Sociedad for the 2024/25 season after turning down what would have been a move to the Premier League for a fee in the region of £50 million.
Martin Zubimendi came through the academy of Antiguoko before joining La Real at the age of 12. He played for Real Sociedad’s C and B teams before making his first-team debut in 2019.
He has gone on to make 187 appearances for Real Sociedad’s first team across all competitions and helped them win the 2019/20 Copa del Rey in his first season.
Internationally, he came off the bench at half-time in the final of UEFA EURO 2024, which Spain went on to win by two goals to one against England and he has also won the UEFA Nations League with La Roja as well as a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He has ten caps for the Spanish.
Liverpool are still yet to sign anyone and they are the only Premier League yet to bring in a first-team player with only Reading in the entirety of the EFL also yet to sign a player in what is the first summer of the post-Jurgen Klopp era.
