      McKenna signs new Ipswich deal

Premier League new boys Ipswich Town have confirmed that their manager Kieran McKenna has officially signed a new long-term contract at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys have announced that the former Manchester United first-team coach has signed a new four-year deal that will keep him contracted to the Suffolk-based club until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

McKenna’s coaching staff of assistant Martyn Pert, first-team coaches Charlie Turnbull and Lee Grant as well as goalkeeping coach Rene Gilmartin have all also signed new deals with the East Anglia club.

The 38-year-old former Northern Ireland youth international had been heavily linked with the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks but it has been reported that his new Ipswich contract has propelled him to being the sixth highest paid manager in the Premier League.

McKenna began his coaching career with Tottenham Hotspur’s under-18 side in 2015 before then taking on the same role at Manchester United a year later.

He took his first permanent managerial role in late-2021, taking over Ipswich when they were in mid-table in League One. In his first full season at Portman Road, he led Ipswich to automatic promotion before then guiding them to second place in the Championship immediately after that.

Chelsea now look set to appoint Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca with Erik ten Hag’s future still reportedly up in the air at Old Trafford, whilst Brighton are being linked with re-appointing Graham Potter to replace Roberto De Zerbi at the AMEX Stadium.
