Michael Carrick has extended his contract with Middlesbrough, committing to the club until 2027.

Carrick's previous contract was set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. Although there were no indications of the Boro boss seeking an exit, all parties were eager to secure a new deal.

The 42-year-old manager took control at the Riverside in October 2022, succeeding Chris Wilder.

In his debut season, Carrick guided Boro to the play-offs, but last season saw them finish in eighth place.

Additionally, he also led the Teesiders to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Speaking to the club's media team, Carrick said: “I’m really happy about it.

“I’ve always been quite calm about it. I think having that attachment, that trust and that belief within the club is really important.

“We’ve certainly got that - that’s what still gives me the great feeling that I had when I first walked through the door.

“It feels like a big step as a headline, as a statement, but really it doesn’t change anything I do or how I approach it, it just carries on what we’re trying to achieve.”
