Premier League clubs have overwhelmingly voted in favour of keeping video assistant referees (VAR) next season.

Clubs voted by 19-1 to maintain VAR for the coming campaign - after Wolverhampton Wanderers had triggered a vote  on the use of the technology by submitting a resolution on the matter to the Premier League last month.

In order for VAR to be abandoned, 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs would have needed to vote for that to happen.

However, according to BBC Sport, Wolves were unable to garner any support for the motion at an annual general meeting on Thursday.

Notably, the usage of semi-automated offsides next season was confirmed at he meeting, their introduction slated for some time in the autumn.

It was also confirmed that in-game VAR announcements will feature in the Premier League for the 2024/25 season.

VAR is here to stay, and I couldn't be happier! As a football fan, I understand the frustrations that come with controversial calls, but VAR is the best solution we have to improve accuracy in the game. Great decision by the Premier League clubs to keep it for next season.

As a football fan, I'm relieved to hear that VAR will continue to be used in the Premier League next season. It's not a perfect system, but it has helped to correct some clear errors and improve the overall fairness of the game. Glad to see that clubs have recognized its value and voted to keep it.

As a football fan, I am disappointed to see that VAR will continue to be used in the Premier League next season. It interrupts the flow of the game and often leads to controversial decisions. Also, the announcement of semi-automated offsides and in-game VAR announcements only adds to the confusion.

As a football fan, I'm glad that VAR will continue to be a part of the Premier League next season. It's not perfect, but it's necessary for fair and accurate decision making. Hopefully, the introduction of semi-automated offsides will help with some of the issues we've seen. Excited for the in-game VAR announcements too!

As a football fan, I am relieved to see that VAR will be remaining in the Premier League next season. While it may not be perfect, it has helped to avoid some controversial decisions and ultimately improve the fairness of the game. I am also intrigued by the upcoming introduction of semi-automated offsides, which I hope will further enhance the accuracy of VAR. Overall, I believe this is a positive decision for the league and its future.
