PREVIEW | Sheffield Wed. vs Middlesbrough - team news, lineups, predictions

Sheffield Wed. host Middlesbrough this Monday at the Hillsborough Stadium in Matchweek 44 of the EFL Championship.

The Owls have won 53 points to date and are safe from the relegation dogfight below then, despite Danny Röhl's team losing 2-0 to Stoke City in their last game.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a play-off place. Boro currently sit seventh in the table after a 2-1 victory against Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday.

The last meeting between the Owls and Boro ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw.

      The Fan Zone

Stephen Gillett (Playmaker Stats): I'm filling in for our normal contributor James here, and when I channel my inner Owls fan, it's fair to say I'm disgruntled.

Without a win in six, Wednesday were off the pace last time out against Stoke - an off-colour display capped by a freakish second goal for the Potters that ricocheted into the net off of Ben Wilmot's posterior.

Championship status has been secured, but Danny Rohl will be hoping for improvements across the board against a Boro side with plenty to play for.

Wednesday's last home win came all the way back on New Year's Day, however, and it's hard to foresee them bagging all three points here.

      Prediction: 1-2

Stephen Gillett (Playmaker Stats): Middlebrough's hopes of a play-off spot come the end of the season are alive and kicking...but only just.

Boro required a very debatable penalty decision at the death to secure a 2-1 win over basement boys Plymouth last time out.

Leading thanks to Finn Azaz's goal against his former club, the stage seemed set for Boro to win convincingly...but Michael Carrick's side can flatter to deceive and they shot themselves in the foot to gift Mustapha Bundu and the Pilgrims an equaliser.

By hook or by crook, Boro managed to get the three points, but it wasn't pretty. Given the two teams' differing incentives at the moment, you would back Boro to win here - but only just!

      Prediction: 1-2
