Seagulls reach agreement with St Pauli

Reports suggest Hurzeler to Brighton is now a done deal

There are fresh reports on Friday evening that Brighton and Hove Albion have now appointed Fabian Hurzeler as their new manager with an official announcement imminent.

The Seagulls have reportedly been close to replacing Roberto De Zerbi with the 31-year-old for a couple of weeks but now, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an agreement between Brighton and his current club St Pauli over a compensation package has been agreed.

It is believed that the Premier League side will pay up towards £8 million to secure the services of a man who will become the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history.

Hurzeler recently led storied and famed club St Pauli back to the Bundesliga as 2. Bundesliga champions playing a modern day possession-dominant style of football which appears perfectly suited to the way in which Brighton intend to play, albeit with a lot less risk than was the case under De Zerbi, who is set to be appointed as the new manager of Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1.

It has been reported that Hurzeler, born in Houston in the United States, will sign a three-year deal at the AMEX Stadium, keeping him contracted to the club until the summer of 2027.

Hurzeler took over St Pauli in December 2022 when the Hamburg-based outfit were battling relegation in the German second-tier. They went on an extraordinary run to finish that season before then propelling themselves to top spot in the 2023/24 campaign.
