League Two Walsall are excelling at both ends of the pitch, according to two eye-catching statistics so far this season.
Mat Sadler's Saddlers sit second in the fourth tier after a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town last weekend and the Midlands club have also progressed to the Third Round of the Carabao Cup 2024/2025 after impressive wins against League One opposition in the form of Exeter City and Huddersfield Town.
Currently only behind leaders Gillingham in League Two, Walsall have posted some impressive numbers already in 2024/25 and their expected goals stats show that they're doing a lot right in an attacking sense.
In fact, across the entire top four tiers last weekend, Walsall posted the best xG of any team: the Saddlers creating 3.62xG in total to put them clear of other star performers such as Premier League Brentford and their League One rivals Stockport.
Defensively speaking, Walsall are also clocking some outstanding stats and arguably the pick of them relates to the number of shots-per-game they are limiting their opposition to. At present, the Saddlers have the fewest shots-conceded-per-game in 'The 92' with Sadler's miserly defence only shipping 5.3 shots-per-game on average.
