Sergio Ramos to leave Sevilla

Veteran defender Sergio Ramos will leave Sevilla on a free transfer after returning to his former club for the 2023/24 season.

Ramos came through the Sevilla academy and made his name at the club before transferring to Real Madrid in 2005 where he went on to have a hugely successful time at the Spanish giants.

After leaving Real Madrid in 2021, Ramos spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain before making his return to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Despite turning 38 last March, Ramos played 37 times for the Andalusian club which endured a difficult season, finishing 14th after having flirted with relegation.

"Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not continue next season at the Nervión club after fulfilling his dream of returning to the club where he was formed as a player and reached the senior international level," a statement on the club's official website said.

"Sergio Ramos has played 37 games in the 23/24 season, with a total of 3,301 minutes and 7 goals to his credit.

"Sevilla FC would like to thank Sergio Ramos for his commitment, leadership and the utmost dedication he has shown this season, wishing him the best of luck in his next professional challenge."

As a football fan and Sevilla supporter, I'm sad to see Ramos leave our club after such a short return. He has been a true leader on the field and brought experience and skill to our defense. However, I understand his decision to fulfill his dream of returning to his first club. It's been an honor to have him wear our shirt once again.
