      Serhiy Rebrov recalls Andriy Yarmolenko

Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United striker Serhiy Rebrov has named his final 26-man Ukraine squad, with squad numbers, for this summer’s UEFA European Championships in Germany.

The war-torn country will be playing a tournament in a country that has more or less been their home for ‘home fixtures’ in the last few years so will have a lot of backing in the few weeks.

They have taken the possibly emotionally charged decision to recall veteran winger Andriy Yarmolenko, now of Dynamo Kyiv, to the squad but he is no longer the captain with that responsibility falling to Arsenal man Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukrainians, after reaching the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2020 before being hammered 4-0 by eventual runners’ up England in Rome, have, once again, a talented squad that many may describe as ‘dark horses’.

Throughout the core of their side they have pedigree and genuine quality with the goalkeeping options a great example between Real Madrid shot stopper Andriy Lunin and Benfica’s number one Anatoliy Trubin.

In defence, Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko is alongside Bournemouth centre-back Illya Zabarnyi and they also have the exciting option of Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matvyenko.

Experienced midfield options include the likes of Serhiy Sydorchuk, Taras Stepanenko and Ruslan Malinovskiy. That is balanced against some really exciting youngsters such as Mykhaylo Mudryk and Heorhiy Sudakov.

The jewel in the crown would up-front for Ukraine with La Liga’s top scorer this season, Artem Dovbyk of Girona, in the squad alongside his club teammate Viktor Tsygankov.
