Spurs up to fourth after win over Forest

Tottenham Hotspur have moved up to fourth in the table after defeating Nottingham Forest at home.

It was a familiar setting for Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo on his first return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since his stint at the club.

But he had to see his team trail inside the first 15 minutes through an own goal. A quick passing move through midfield saw Timo Werner put in a low ball into the danger zone from the left that Murillo got a touch to which diverted it past Matz Sels and into the net.

Despite that unfortunate start, Forest got back into the game through the in-form Chris Wood. Neco Williams played the ball forward for Anthony Elanga who rolled the ball into the area where Wood was able to convert for his fourth goal in four games.

The Forest striker should have got a second after Ryan Yates had a shot saved by Guglielmo Vicario. The Spurs 'keeper could only palm it into the path of Wood whose effort then bounced off the woodwork from close range.

Ange Postecoglou made two changes in midfield at half-time to try and improve his side and it worked with Spurs taking the lead seven minutes after the restart.

The goal came from a corner that was passed across the Forest box and to the outside of the area where eventually Micky van de Ven had all the time in the world to hit the net with a powerful effort.

It was another defender who scored Tottenham's third of the game just a few minutes later. A ball from the left was met by the head of Rodrigo Bentancur. It didn't look like he meant it but that header put in on a plate for Pedro Porro who lashed his effort into the net.

That goal effectively killed off the game with Forest unable to create any more real openings and Spurs were happy with their two-goal cushion.

The win is most important for Tottenham of course, who now move into the top four after Aston Villa were held by Brentford on Saturday.

Wood was unmarked in the six-yard box but could not direct his header on target.

Well done Tottenham for the win, but it's disappointing to see Forest lose like that. Nuno Espírito Santo must have mixed emotions returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. On the bright side, Chris Wood is on fire and hopefully he can continue his scoring streak.

As a Tottenham fan, I have to say I am thrilled with our win against Nottingham Forest! It was great to see Nuno Espírito Santo back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but we made sure to show him who's boss. The own goal may have been unfortunate for Forest, but it's all in the game. And kudos to Chris Wood for his impressive performance, but in the end, it's Tottenham who came out on top.

As a Tottenham fan, I couldn't be happier with our move up to fourth in the table. It was a great win against Nottingham Forest at our home stadium. Unfortunately, Nuno Espírito Santo's return wasn't a successful one as we dominated the game and secured an early lead through an own goal. But credit to Forest for getting back into the game through Chris Wood's goal. Looking forward to more wins and climbing up the table!
