The Women's Champions League semi-finals begin this weekend with both Chelsea and Arsenal facing difficult European tasks.
It won't be an easy weekend for either of the WSL sides as they face teams with considerable European pedigree but when all is said and done we could be looking at an all-English Champions League final at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
Our first semi-final sees Arsenal, who made it here after an epic turnaround against Real Madrid face a Lyon side who easily dispatched Bayern Munich.
Renée Slegers' team will feel confident going into this game with the North London team on a run of four wins in a row, including a big 5-1 victory over Leicester City in the WSL during the week.
Lyon meanwhile could only draw against Paris FC last week but they still enjoy a comfortable eight-point cushion over PSG at the top of the French league.
These two sides last faced off in the 2022/23 Champions League with two very different results. Arsenal put Lyon to the sword in France, enjoying a 5-1 victory in which Caitlin Foord and Beth Mead both struck twice with Frida Maanum bagging the other,
That was the only time in seven fixtures that Arsenal have beaten Lyon though. Indeed, the French side won the reverse fixture in England thanks to an own goal from Maanum.
At their very best, Arsenal will feel like they can defeat Lyon but they may need a comfortable home leg lead to ensure their progress.
A tie that could easily have been the final. Barcelona are the reigning Champions League winners and they will be hoping to defend their crown but facing off against England's best team will not be easy.
This season, the Catalan side have felt more mortal than in previous seasons having lost a shocking THREE games in all competitions. Barça have been defeated by Real Madrid, Levante, and Manchester City this season which seems to confirm their 'mortal' status that Sonia Bompastor's side will surely want to take advantage of.
In comparison, Chelsea have only lost once in all competitions – that 2-0 Champions League first leg quarter-final against Manchester City that was cancelled out by a 3-0 win in the second leg.
This is of course a rematch of last season's semi-finals. That time it was Chelsea who earned a surprise 1-0 lead after the first leg in Barcelona. However, Barça fought back in London, enjoying a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, albeit with two players who now represent Chelsea: Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh.
It remains to be seen just how costly those exits could be for the Liga F side.
