With the absence of the Premier League and the Championship this weekend, it was time for League One and Two to step up to the plate - and they didn’t disappoint!
Here are five masterful finishes from the third and fourth tiers of English football this weekend...enjoy!
Louis Reed (Peterborough 2-0 Lincoln)
The top scorers (28 goals) across the top four tiers, Posh were at it again versus Lincoln at the weekend, with Louis Reed bagging a great effort to get off the mark this season. After 81 minutes of play, with the game looking likely to end goalless, Posh ramped up the tempo and Reed powered through Lincoln’s hitherto resolute defence to break the deadlock in style.
Ivan Toney (Peterborough 2-0 Lincoln)
It's not all quantity with Posh, there's quality too - which is why both of their weekend strikes have been admitted to the Top Drawer! This time it’s a more recognised scorer, in the shape of Ivan Toney. This delicious lob made him the first player in the top four tiers to reach double figures for league goals this season...
Ian Henderson (Rochdale 2-1 Accrington Stanley)
Two goals for Dale and two goals for arch-bagsman Ian Henderson. After his brace on Saturday, Henderson moves on to seven League One goals in 2019/20, and he 'll do well to score any better than this during the remainder of the campaign.
Joe Pritchard (Rochdale 2-1 Accrington Stanley)
It proved nothing more than a consolation goal for Accrington Stanley, but this long-range effort by Joe Pritchard is a surefire 'Goal of the Season' contender. It was a brilliant strike that gave Accrington a lifeline after falling 2-0 behind.
Kurtis Guthrie (Stevenage 2-1 Grimsby)
A cheeky flick from League Two, this cute effort from Kurtis Guthrie is the last on the list this week. A good build up was topped off wonderfully with this stylish finish to give Stevenage an early lead. Close range goals don’t often appear in goal compilations, but this one deserves it given its execution.
