Wolves’ Pedro Neto out for the season & Euros

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ breakout star, Pedro Neto, will miss the remainder of the 2020/21 season and Portugal’s Euro 2020 campaign after the club confirmed a knee injury rules him out of action until next season.

Neto went down injured in the 32nd minute of Wolves’ 1-0 win over Fulham last Friday, and after assessment over the weekend in London, the club have confirmed a long-term knee injury.

A statement on Wolves website read: “Pedro Neto suffered a significant injury to his patella (knee cap) during the match against Fulham and, following a review with a knee specialist in London at the weekend, surgery has been planned for later this week. Unfortunately, he is not expected to return to play until next season.”

Neto has been the biggest highlight in what has been a poor season for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, registering five goals and six assists in the league, while earning links to Champions League level sides with his skill and directness.

21-year-old Neto had recently become part of the Portugal squad that will head into this summer’s tournament as reigning champions and one of the favourites, making the senior squad on six occasions since last November, racking up three appearances and a goal against Andorra.
