Teams at this summer's European Championships will be allowed to take a 26-player squad instead of the usual 23.
Extended squads will be permitted to try and ease the burden on players after the condensed club season caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and will also give managers some flexibility should outbreaks happen during the tournament.
The decision, initially made by Uefa's national teams committee last month, was approved by the body's executive committee on Tuesday.
In a statement, Uefa said the rules were approved "to guarantee the smooth running and continuity of the competition in light of the Covid-19 pandemic".
A rule that allows teams to make up to five substitutes per game had already been ratified - although 23 players will remain the maximum number that can feature on team sheets for matches.
Previously scheduled to take place last summer, the tournament begins on 11 June - and the deadline for submitting squads is 1 June.
England manager Gareth Southgate is reportedly set to name his squad during the week commencing 24 May.
