      Kane on target as Spurs beat Newcastle

      Tottenham Hotspur spoiled Newcastle United's takeover celebrations as Spurs beat the hosts by 3-2 at St James Park and took the three points back to London.

      Action: It was Newcastle's first match since the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover of the club, the Newcastle fans could not ask for a better start. With just two minutes played, Callum Wilson headed home a well-measured Javi Manquilo cross, giving the lead to the hosts.

      Spurs suffered an early blow, but remained calm and levelled the game 15 minutes late through a superb curled strike into the corner from Tanguy Ndombele.

      Shortly after, the visitors took the lead with Harry Kane grabbing his first Premier League goal of the season, after flicking a finish over Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow, which was ultimately adjudged onside after initially being disallowed.

      After 40 minutes, moments of panic in St James Parl, with the game being temporarily suspended when players were alerted to a medical emergency in the Newcastle stand.

      When the game resumed, Spurs added their third through Son Heung-min before the break, after a good link-up between the South Korean and Kane.

      The tempo of the game dropped in the second-half, but the hosts saw their hopes shrink of getting back in the game, when substitute Jonjo Shelvey picked up two quickfire bookings leaving his team with 10-man.

      In the 89th minute, Eric Dier diverted a free-kick into his own net and gave Newcastle hope but they were unable to grab an equaliser.

      Big Picture: The result sees Spurs leapfrog Manchester United into fifth in the league table and going level on 15 points with Brighton in fourth. Newcastle United remain second bottom, without a win this season.

      Tottenham will resume Europa Conference League campaign on Thursday with a visit to Dutch side Vitesse. After that, they will then be back to Premier League action next weekend when they make a short trip to their London rivals West Ham.

      The Magpies will are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Crystal Palace.

      Memorable moment: Today's game was halted due to a medical emergency in the stadium which led to both sets of players being taken off the pitch before half-time.

      Players from both sides, aware of fans waving their arms and shirts in the East Stand, informed referee Andre Marriner. 

      The supporter received treatment from medical staff and a statement later on the official Newcastle United Twitter feed read: "The supporter who was in need of urgent medical assistance has been stabilised and is on their way to hospital. Our thoughts are with them."
