Villa come from behind to draw with Man Utd

Aston Villa scored with the last touch of the game to draw 2-2 with Manchester United in Perth.

Erik ten Hag’s side were the better side for the first 45 minutes, opening the scoring through Jadon Sancho after Luke Shaw’s cross on the overlap.

United doubled their lead during a brief spell of torrential rain in fortunate circumstances. Fred played a long ball over the top for Sancho to find space behind the Villa backline. Sancho then crossed the ball for Marcus Rashford, who didn’t connect well with his effort and instead it deflected off Matty Cash into the net. 

Steven Gerrard made plenty of changes after half-time and Villa were greatly improved while the condition of the pitch worsened. 

Leon Bailey was the star of the second half and scored a superb solo effort as Villa hit United on the break. The forward carried the ball from the halfway line, cut inside, and finished well past David de Gea.

Harry Maguire prevented Bailey from scoring another with just over an hour gone when the Jamaican rounded the goalkeeper. The United captain managed to get back just in time to stop what would have been a certain goal. 

United looked like they were going to win their fourth of four pre-season games until the last second when a Villa corner was headed in by Calum Chambers to give the Villans a deserved draw. 

Ten Hag’s team are next in action when they take on Atlético Madrid in Oslo next Saturday while Villa’s second pre-season game will also be next weekend away to Rennes in France.
