Sunderland have confirmed that Ross Stewart will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.
The Scottish forward was taken off after just 20 minutes in the Black Cat’s 1-1 draw away to Fulham in the FA Cup last weekend.
Stewart, who was attracting attention from Championship and Premier League sides during the winter transfer window, will undergo surgery next week that will keep the 26-year-old on the sidelines.
The Sunderland man has played 15 times in all competitions this season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists and his absence will be a big blow to Tony Mowbray’s team. Although the club welcomed the arrivals of Joe Gelhardt and Isaac Lihadji in January.
Ninth-placed Sunderland return to league action this weekend when they travel to face Millwall.
We can confirm that Ross Stewart will miss the remainder of the season with an Achilles injury.
